During the two month residency at the ISCP Laura Põld used the given studio space for experimenting and trying out a less-controlling mode of engageing with various material bodies. The slowly developing gathering included yams (edible large tuberous starchy roots), reading material, embroidered canvases, nails and thread, some found objects and the unexpected sprouting of the yams. The reading material was focusing on ideas about the relationship between humans and ‘things’, or what Jane Bennett calls “vital materialism”. The installations grew as site-specific co-evolution of edible matter and plants, text, textile and thread.
